Roundhay Ward Cllr Jordan Bowden has launched a petition to demand Yorkshire Water are held to account for dumping sewage in Gledhow Valley Woods.
Read Jordan's story below and check out his video summary:
"Our community worked hard to secure funding for vital improvements to Gledhow Valley Woods—a green sanctuary we all love and cherish.
But our efforts are being destroyed before our eyes. While we work to protect our green spaces, Yorkshire Water is actively poisoning them, dumping raw sewage directly into Gledhow Beck and the lake. This isn't an abstract problem; it's an ecological crime happening on our doorstep.
And here is the shocking injustice:
In Leeds, an individual fly-tipping can be fined or imprisoned.
Yet, Yorkshire Water CEO Nicola Shaw oversees the systematic poisoning of our waterways, and is rewarded with a £1.3 million bonus while our bills soar.
One rule for us, another for the polluter in the executive suite. This has to stop.
We cannot allow our local environment to be sacrificed for corporate profit. We demand action now. We call on our local MPs and regulators to:
Hold water bosses personally and criminally liable for the systematic destruction of our natural environment.
Demand the immediate removal of Nicola Shaw from her position for her failure to protect our waterways.
Nicola Shaw should give back the 1.3million to be spent on projects to clean up our waterways.
Our community deserves better. Our wildlife deserves better. Our children deserve a clean and safe natural world."
